But first, this...
Blind dates are so overrated. Maybe that’s my “better-know-before-you-go” gene talking. Come to think of it, it’s probably just my general intolerance for risk. Ok, who’re we kidding – it’s a combo deal.
Truth is I never got any kicks out of meeting someone I didn’t know with the intent of sharing my affections – especially if I’m not fully, wholly and substantively committed to making this (whatever “this” is) work.
What are we doing here?
So it’s on this premise that we’re going to treat you to an introduction to each of our 2017 Digital Dallas Roast contestants! I mean, who wants to go in blind to possibly the greatest startup comedy roast…ever? Think of my next few emails as a sort of speed dating for this year’s Roast - a down and dirty get-to-know-you.
Because let me tell you, you’re going to LOVE getting to know our start-ups this year. Not only do they have some great ideas, but maybe, just maybe, you’ll uncover a connection that leads to a perfect match for your next job or your investment portfolio.
Now go grab your marshmallows, chocolate bars and graham crackers because we’re kicking off our roast with a real BONFIRE - a campground management software company that’s led by trailblazer Jerry King.
Come see Jerry and Bonfire get roasted on Apr 19th: Buy a ticket to the Startup Comedy Roast.
Bonfire combines the happiness of getting back to nature with an online reservation management platform for small campgrounds and RV parks. Not only is Bonfire saving campers and roadies valuable time by simplifying reservations, they’re also helping small businesses stay competitive in today’s cut throat market. Clearly, what’s not to love?
“On the consumer-facing side, we’re giving campers and RV’rs an all-in-one online reservation,” said King. “Our system will save them time when reserving that perfect spot to pitch their tent or park their camper. On the business side, Bonfire is a simple software solution that mom and pop businesses can easily integrate and manage on their existing websites. It’s persuading some of the toughest luddites to embrace 21st Century tech by making their reservation processes easier and seamless. It’s a two-for-one deal.”
Bonfire is an off-shoot of a much larger scale version that fizzled out. Fortunately, King believed that a new approach was all that was needed to turn things around. So he jumped in and focused the business on an often overlooked market: smaller, family operated campground and RV park businesses.
“I think we’ve got a pretty inspiring story. Bonfire was born from a company that had a big vision and put it out there. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the right product at the right time. I think of us as a phoenix rising from the ashes. We took a failure and repositioned it to where it shows hope and promise.”
So, did you find yourself swooning for this classic underdog success story with a rustic and outdoorsy twist? Are you excited about seeing more quality start-up companies vie for your affections and laughter? Lucky for you, the Digital Dallas Startup Roast will be on Wednesday, April 19th beginning at 6 p.m. at the Dallas Comedy House in Deep Ellum.
